Excited to be featured in “Boost Your Benefit Auction”

I just recieved my shipment of “Boost Your Benefit Auction, Ton’s Of Fundraising Tips from Pro Auctioneers.” It’s very exciting to be apart of this amazing book led by an amazing mentor of mine and the Gala Gal herself, Jenelle Taylor! My Chapter is titled “Auctioneer as Ambassador.” I focused on this point to show how and why a professional benefit auctioneer can connect with an organization and share their story along with the experiences felt while visiting. This first hand prospective is important when directly asking for donations during the “Paddle Raiser.” When utilized, fundraisers will find that they have set new auction revenue records and are able to help many that benefit from the funds. This book features 41 other Professional Benefit Auctioneers and tips to help you break those records! If you’d like a copy, get one from me directly (Free US Shipping!) HERE!

How to work within your committee to create unique amazing auction items

I had two great meetings with upcoming groups yesterday. One event is in November and the other quickly approaching in mid-September. One is for my local Chamber of Commerce for a Scholarship Fundraiser and the other for a local Catholic Prep School. By working with both groups on the same day I was able to piggie back some of the similar ideas and themes to help create lucrative benefit auctions for both.

With the Chamber, we were able to brainstorm ideas of local businesses that would benefit from the exposure and able to help us create some amazing experiences that you can only get at this auction. This is key, to create experiences that you could never find anywhere else except at your fundraising auction. By working together and coming up with ideas we quickly developed 10-12 ideas using just local resources to create some amazing auction items!

With the Prep School, whose auction was very long the previous year (22 items, wow!) they found they were losing bidders and money as the night drug on. This year we are changing things up a bit and going to 8-10 items, each of high desirability and rarity. There were a few members of the committee that had contacts at zoo’s and professional ball parks that enable bidders to get a one of a lifetime behind the scenes experiences. One member mentioned that when they go to the zoo and look down at the monkey cage and see some people getting a tour of the exhibit by a zoo worker, she wondered “How did they get to do that?” This is how and by creating these experiences your auction will go through the roof!

The most important lesson here is to work with-in your current network and to find unique and exciting experiences to generate a buzz around your next fundraising auction. When you have this buzz and X-factor…your bidders will be happy to give you money for your organization and receive some amazing experiences in exchange. Collective thinking and crowd sourcing is an easy and effective solution to super charging your next benefit event! I also love guiding them and brainstorming ideas to blow peoples minds and then their pocketbooks…

Watch This! The Non-Profit revolution is now!

Please, please, please watch this…the next 18 minutes of your life can change your non-profit immensely! The time is now to step up and play by the “For Profit” rules. Dan Pallotta lays out the differences in public perception and policy between “For Profit” and your “Non-Profit.” By being in the Non-Profit sector we work towards solving problems and changing lives, but we both need to work together to turn the multitude of scale into those we helps favor. Effective marketing and lucrative fundraising will make a huge impact on those in need. Those that the government and the “For-Profit” business’s push to the side. Let’s work together to make a real difference and an amazing impact in lives of those you help, whether it’s a student, homeless family, child living with an uncureable disease or as simply as the local animal shelter…WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE, if we choose to. Let Call To Auction help you to help many!

Thanks,

Bobby D.

Thoughts, Impressions and Idea’s from the 2013 NAA C&S

IMG_20130719_195239_947

Having just returned a couple nights ago from the amazing National Auctioneer Association Conference and Show in Indianapolis, I had to brain dump all my thoughts here and share them with you. First off, the NAA C&S is an annual meeting of over 800 like minded auctioneers from all facets of the industry from Real Estate, Collectibles to Benefit Auctions. It is also home of the International Auctioneer Championship, which I had the pleasure and pain of competing in (More on this later). There were so many fresh ideas and energized auctioneers that I couldn’t help myself from learning from them all to help benefit you, my clients and future clients. By learning new techniques and tactics to be used in auctions I consult with and conduct; I can help maximize returns for your event and ultimately your organization.

First off, I was lucky to meet at least a dozen fellow amazing Benefit Auctioneer Specialist’s from around the nation. There’s only 170 or so of us in the USA and having this concentration was great. They were kind enough to let me pick their brains on what was working for them, new ideas on how to conduct a more successful Fund-A-Need, great auction item ideas and what is are the new trends in the Benefit Auction World.

I also attended some awesome classes specifically for benefit auctioneers. One class was about creating a better bidder experience; how we can involve more of the attendees at the event and beyond by using online bidding technologies.  I attended a fun class titled: “Death of a Benefit Auctioneer” ultimately ways to not fail my clients and how to keep them happy and coming back for more. You will directly benefit from all of these lessons by noticing improved customer service and larger donations at your auctions.

All day Friday was the International Auctioneer Championships. By competing with 100 of the nation’s I got to see where I fit in the grand spectrum of professional auctioneers and am happy to say that I felt I was in the top 25%. Only 15 contestants made the finals and I just missed the cut. But I did get to relax and enjoy the contest and see some amazing auctioneering go down. It made for a long day but a very fulfilling one and has me excited to compete next year and possibly bring home the trophy!

The National Auctioneer Association put on a great show and the level of professionalism and kindness will be unmatched. If you want to find out what the difference between a regular auctioneer and a NAA auctioneer I urge you to head to www.auctioneers.org to learn more about the great organization that I am a proud member of. After the conference I got to visit the Indian State Museaum where a boyhood passion of mine was exhibited…The Star War’s Exhibit.

With this I say: May The Force Be With You!

My Call To Auction

We all go through life looking for that way to make a difference, that way to touch many people and to help change lives. I’ve searched and searched for this thing for many years. Working in the Auction industry for over 15 years and coming from a family of auctioneers, I was looking for something more, someway to give back and someway to help.

One day after meeting with a client about their upcoming benefit auction, I was speaking with my wife about what was discussed, how we could raise more money at this event than ever before to be able to build a new wing of the school. In that meeting I realized that with my experience and expertise in benefit auctions, I was able to directly affect the outcome of this group’s auction and help them build that wing of the school. While talking with my wife about the feeling this gave me, she gave me that look…you know that look, the “I told you so” look. She has been saying for years prior that I will find that thing that makes me passionate for what I do and now I finally uncovered my path to help.  With the discovery with in myself, I’ve heard my Call To Action to educate myself with the best benefit auction techniques around, network with seasoned professionals in my industry to learn from them to create amazing auctions for my clients, use the latest software and technologies available to engage more bidders, and to use my passion the best that I can to help those organizations that help so many. This is my Call To Auction…How can I help you?
